Revitalizing Sugar Detox

REVITALISING SUGAR DETOX

  • Foods to be avoided:

In this phase all forms of sugars i.e sucrose, fructose, lactose should be avoided. Any food containing these sugars cannot be consumed. Sugar, honey, jaggery, stevia, artificial sweeteners, any food with added sugars like jams, juices ( even fresh ones) sauces.

  • Foods to be included:
  1. All vegetables except potatoes.
  2. Can include raw nuts, seeds, sprouts, legumes
  3. All Fruits
  4. Fresh vegetable juices and soups

Exercise: Exercise gently. If you are used to do intense exercise reduce it by half. If you move more eat more. Detox is not a calorie restriction diet.

Guidelines

  • Revitalising detox will help to improve the insulin resistance, sugar cravings, cleanse the system.
  • Incase you are comfortable, you can go for semi gluten free in this period. Semi gluten free means that you will cut down on consumption of gluten, though you will not eliminate it completely. If you find it tough to go gluten free, then it is not compulsory to go semi gluten free.
  • Eat in distraction free environment. Eat slowly and mindfully until you are 75% full. You should be satisfied but not stuffed.
  • Eat freshly prepared foods.
  • Do some breathing exercises (pranayam) for 10 to ­15 minutes. Studies show that deep breathing activates a special nerve, called vagus nerve, that shifts your metabolism from fat storing to fat burning and quickly moves you out of the stress state. Take 5 deep breaths before your major Meals.
  • For Kidneys­ drink enough water to eliminate waste. Do not consume artificial chemicals, animal products that could load your kidneys
  • Introduce   wheatgrass   in   the   early   morning.   Some   people   might   have   acidity,  headache   or   might   be   allergic   to   wheat   grass,   in   that   case   consume   in   small  amounts   and   increase   the   quantity   gradually   to   1   tsp.   In   case   you   feel   uneasy  even with very small amount, then avoid it and inform the dietician.
  • Consume Seeds cocktail  1  spoon daily and Tru Fibre 1 or  1.5 tsp
  • Have atleast 4 glasses of liquid daily (a combination of vegetable juice, buttermilk, lime water, tender coconut water). During this phase, try to consume 1 cup of teatox any time during the day.
  • At bedtime take 1 triphala tab with warm or regular water.
  • Sip detox drink through the day –

Detox Drink Recipe

Boil 4 to 5 cups of water in the morning. Add 1/2 teaspoon of the following seeds to the water  and continue to let it boil for about 5 minutes with the lid on.

  1. Whole cumin seeds
  2. Whole coriander seeds
  3. Whole fennel seeds

Strain out the seeds and pour the liquid into a thermos flask. The key is to make the tea fresh every morning, place it in a thermos, and take small sips of it throughout the day. It is best to drink it warm or hot. If the tea is too strong or if you experience some initial discomfort, reduce the amount of seeds to 1/4 teaspoon for 2 phases, and then increase it back to 1/2 teaspoon.

  • Avoid grains for 4  days during dinner. Or have 1 or 2 small roti/ chapathi of 5-6 inch, take shake-a day, buttermilk with Tru Fibre (Super Fibre), one bowl of soup or a salad and cooked dal.
  • Follow 13  days of diet from Revitalising Detox Diet with 2 days of Cheat meal in a week.One for Breakfast and One for Lunch.

    5. Try to reduce tea/coffee or substitute it with teatox/herbal teas without sugar. If you are addicted to it, then have one small cup and then gradually move towards teatox/green tea.
    6. Because of lack of gluten, gluten free rotis would be little difficult to make. You are advised to make it with warm water. Prepare rotis immediately before consumption.
    7. How to have Vegetable Juice: Please be very careful not to strain the pulp. Vegetable juice should be had with pulp as pulp contains fibre.
    8. You might not like the taste of semi polished or hand pound rice initially, but give it some time. It takes 21 days usually to accept any new taste and after that you will start loving it. And believe us, it would be one of the healthiest changes that you will be making to your diet. If you have eaten brown rice before you can continue to eat it if not start with semi-brown or hand pound rice.

If you are eating brown rice for the first time, then make sure that it is cooked well and you begin with a small quantity and then increase the quantity. Less than 1% of people might face some digestion problem because of its higher fiber content, but then there is nothing to worry. Your body will get used to it with time.
